Dr. Evelyn Ramos, 87, of Concord, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Emerson Hospital. She was the wife of the late Pol Ramos. Born in Manila, Philippines on November 16, 1926 she was the daughter of Gaspar Lacson and Victoria Manahan. As a teenager she survived World War II. She was a graduate of Arellano University in Arts and Sciences and received a medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1953. She was a life member of the Philippine Medical Women's Association, American College of Radiology, Massachusetts Radiological Society, American Medical Association, Massachusetts Medical Society. She was an active member of the Philippine Medical Associates of New England in the 1970's. She married Pol Ramos in 1953 and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Eleanor. Evelyn emigrated to the United States in 1967 where she ultimately settled in Boston. Her family followed two months later. She became a US citizen in 1974, then successfully petitioned for her two brothers and their families to emigrate. They arrived 11 years later. She pursued her medical career by specializing in radiology at various hospitals in Massachusetts such as Jewish Medical Hospital, Residency at Veterans Administration Center in Boston with rotations at NE Medical Center and Lemuel Shattuck, and Clinical Fellow at Tufts-NE Medical Center assigned to Lemuel Shattuck, Boston. She joined private practice covering Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg Radiological Associates, Chelmsford Medical Associates and a private contract at Cutler Army Hospital. In 1981 she joined the US Army as a Lt. Colonel, serving at Cutler Army Community Hospital in Fort Devens and later at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood Texas. She completed her tour of duty with Honorable Discharge as a full Colonel at Fort Devens in 1997. A Concord resident since 1977 she enjoyed sewing, swimming, and following the Red Sox. She had a special long-time relationship with her cat, Max. Besides her husband, Pol, who passed away in 2005 she leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law Robert Mann. Evelyn was delighted to become a grandmother to twin children, Joseph and Jason Mann. She was particularly proud to follow the professional career of her younger daughter who is now a senior executive in the bio-technology industry. Eleanor and her partner, Ruthann Armstrong, live in the San Francisco Bay area. Dr. Ramos leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews in the United States and the Philippines. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 30, at 10 AM in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord. Officiating will be the Reverend David K. MacAdam, pastor of the New Life Community Church, Concord. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday and Friday also at the Dee Funeral Home in Concord.
