CLAUDANNE, Sr. Mary, SSA (nee Dorothy Agnes Sheehan), Born Aug. 9, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba died Nov.15, 2008 at The Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, B.C. The eighth of nine children she entered the Sisters of St. Ann in 1953 and pronounced her vows on Feb. 5, 1956. Music, Commerce, bookkeeping and teaching encompassed Sr. Mary Claudanne's ministry. Having received an A.M.M. from the U. of Manitoba as a performance pianist she taught piano and music theory in Kamloops, Prince George and Nanaimo. Though a teacher of grade 6 for a couple of years at St. Patrick's School, Victoria Sr. Mary Claudanne's 14 years of teaching were primarily at the secondary level. While math, science, religion, home economics were among the courses taughther preference and B.S.C. from Seattle U. prepared her to teach commercial subjects. This ministry took Sister to St. Ann's Academy, Victoria where she reopened the Commerce Department; St. Ann's in Nanaimo; Smith Memorial in Port Alberni and Little Flower Academy in Vancouver until 1981. While teaching she kept the accounting records in most places she served. From 1973 to 1995 she served as Bookkeeper for the school and convent at Little Flower Academy. Sr. Mary Claudanne spent her Retirement years at Mount Saint Angela and then at St. Ann's Residence. Predeceased by her parents, George Edmond Sheehan and Agnes Ellen King, her sister Patricia Plumridge and brother Cecil; she is survived by sisters Irene Weiss, Bernice Sheenan, Mary Teresa Sheehan, Cecilia Sheehan, brothers Austin and Bernard, many cousins, nieces, nephews and her own community of Sisters of St. Ann. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday Nov. 17, 2008 @ St. Ann's Residence, 2474 Arbutus Road, Victoria, B.C. The Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 18, 2008 also at St. Ann's Residence. Interment, Hatley Memorial Gardens. 513158 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist on 11/18/2008
