O'DONNELL, Donald John (Squadron Leader (Retired)) Peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2007, at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) at age 78. Beloved husband of Joan (Jordan); loving father and father-in-law of: Daniel (Deborah O'Hearn); Debra (Randy Dupuis); and Michael; "World's Greatest Grandpa" to Amanda (Dupuis), Shannon, and Troy. Survived by his dear sister Patricia (Donald Hendley); sister-in-law, Phyllis; loving goddaughter and niece, Susan; nieces Cathy, Christine, and Kelly, as well as many cousins. Predeceased by his beloved son, Mark; parents, John Patrick and Gertrude Ann (McCarthy) O'Donnell; brother, George; sister Clare (George Proulx). Donald was a career military man for most of his life, but he was born to be a grandfather and he cherished the last twenty-three years, spending as much time as he could with his family, especially his grandchildren. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and palliative care team at the hospital for the care and compassion they showed Donald in his final days, especially Drs. Wang, Chan, Edwards, and Seely and nurse Lynn. A special thanks to Drs. Fitzgibbon, Bedard, Leach, and McIsaac and their staff, as well as to the Riverside Home Dialysis team, especially April, for their wonderful care and treatment which helped to keep Donald with us for the past thirty years. These years have been a cherished gift. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road (east of Bank) Monday from 7 to 9p.m. Funeral Service Tuesday in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment Notre Dame Cemetery.
