NICOL, Delmar George - Delmar George Nicol's life came to a close at Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 97 years. Delmar was born in Moore Township on February 17, 1910, the third child born to his late parents, James H. Nicol and Louisa B. Gray. Beloved husband of the late Claire (Greer) Nicol. Del is the dear “Dad” of Anne and father-in-law and friend of Bill Philp. Grandpa “Nic” will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Melissa Martin and her husband Shawn and their children Brock, Paige, and Maya and his grandson Ian Philp. He is survived by his sister Isabel (Mrs. Marshall Moore); Margaret LeConte and her husband Howard; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Bill Shaw; sisters-in-law Mrs. Lyla Nicol (Alex); and Mrs. Betty Greer (Emmerson). Uncle Del will be missed by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Keith, Vera (Mrs. Clayton Moore), Melba (Mrs. Horrace Hollands), Alex, Graydon and Lloyd. Del began his interesting and successful Great Lakes sailing career in 1931 working and studying his way from deckhand to captain. He retired from Canada Steamship Lines with 43 years service in 1975. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 11:00 am at Grace United Church, 990 Cathcart Blvd, Sarnia. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Sympathy through donations to the Vision Nursing Home Activities Fund.
