David G. McPherson of Hingham, formerly of Hyde Park, died unexpectedly of a heart attack, Feb. 23, 2012, at the age of 69. Davids family emigrated from Loch Gelly, Fifeshire ("The Happy Land"), Scotland, to the Boston area when he was 11, and throughout his life he remained proud of his Scottish heritage. He grew up in Hyde Park, was graduated from Hyde Park High in 1959, and continued his education with night courses at Northeastern University. He served in the National Guard as a medic in the 1960's. A lifelong salesman, he worked most recently as owner of NEPTCO, an industrial power equipment supply company. He was also an avid sports enthusiast. In high school he played baseball, hockey and football. As a young father, he helped create the Hingham Youth Soccer League and served as coach for years. Later in life he became fond of tennis, golf, cross-country skiing, and most recently rowing. He also had an artistic bent, which included drawing, painting and carving. Most of all, he devoted his life to his family. He was the husband of Cindy Prentice of Hingham; and loving father of Liza H. McPherson of Hingham; as well as the former husband of Judy McPherson of Hull and Jensen Beach, FL; loving father of David M. McPherson of Silver Spring, MD, Michael I. McPherson of Marstons Mills, Marc D. McPherson of Baltimore, MD, and Gregg R. McPherson of Los Angeles, CA. He was the loving son of Williamina McPherson of Braintree and the late David W. McPherson; and brother of Doug McPherson of Healdsburg, CA, Richard McPherson of Chelmsford, and Brian McPherson of San Anselmo, CA. David is survived by nine grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home, 3 Charles St., East Weymouth, (corner of Charles and Middle Streets) and to attend a memorial service, which will be celebrated at 4 p.m Wednesday in Old Ship Church, 107 Main St., Hingham.
