David Zach Webster, 78, of Forest Acres Road, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at his home after a 25 year journey with prostate cancer. He was born in Rochester, NY on Dec. 11, 1935 the son of Donald B. and Eleanor (Zach) Webster. He spent his early years in Palmyra, NY and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1957. He enlisted in the US Army and was discharged in 1960 with the rank of 1st Lt. He graduated from George Washington University in 1964 with a LLB/JD and from Babson College in 1973 with a MBA. He was a member of the MA and VA Bars. The family moved to Needham, MA in 1964 and David joined a large family owned insurance agency known as Boit, Dalton and Church and the Cameron & Colby Companies which later became Frank B. Hall. He was President of the companies Providence, RI office in the 80s. The company then became Aon Corp. where David was Executive V.P. of the Boston Office until he retired in 1998 and began consulting for Aon Affinity Insurance Services until 2004. David was very active in the insurance industry becoming an early leader in the 7000 member Professional Liability Underwriting Society as Founder/Chair of its Boston Chapter and a trustee of its Foundation and recipient of its PLUS One Award in 1995. He was active on various boards in the Boston area and was chair of the New England Dollars for Scholars 150+ chapter scholarship fund-raising arm of Scholarship America. He served in various volunteer capacities at The Pine Street Inn where he was known as the Pie Man. He was on the board of The Wang Center For The Performing Arts and was a director of the New London, NH Barn Playhouse. The family moved to Boston in 1997 and to New London, NH in 2003 where they had vacationed since 1969. Davids cancer treatment of choice was long distance biking. He led and documented many rides in NE, Canada and Europe and annually rode in The Prouty Ride for cancer research. He also enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis and golf and enhancing his personal education and reading. He was devoted to his church, Christ Episcopal Church in Needham and more recently St. Andrews Episcopal Church in New London where he sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie (Huntley) Webster of New London, NH; two sons and their wives and families, David Z. Webster, Jr. and Jennifer Olsen Webster and their sons, Samuel Henry Webster and Jackson Huntley Webster all of Winter Park, FL and Charles Scott Webster and Kristina Tassone Webster and their children, Jameson Suzanne Webster, Rylan Tayo Webster and Nicholas Vincent Webster all of Sharon, MA; his identical twin, Peter Zach Webster and his wife, Betsy Angle Webster of Pittsford, NY and brother, Philip J. Webster and his wife, Irmy Glucks Webster of St. Michaels, MD; 13 devoted nieces and nephews and their 18 children. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald B. Webster and a nephew, Thomas Webster. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Gould Road, New London, NH.
