Captain Robert Pollock came to America wih his family from Donegal county, Ireland, probably between 1672 and 1680 and settled down on the Eastern shore of Maryland, where he and his sons received grants of land from Lords Baltimore. He married before coming to America to Magdalen Tasker, from Broomsfield Castle, near Londonderry. Her father was a chancellor of Ireland and she was widow of Colonel Porter. Robert served as captain in Colonel Porter’s regiment. He died between 1699 and 1704.

POLLOCK-POLK – Comes from a Scottish origin. Was used to identify someone who was living at Pollok, near Glasgow. This town’s name comes from the Gaelic word “poll”, meaning pool or pit. Polk is a variant of Pollock.
