Jean Poisson was baptized on October 3rd, 1618 in St-Jean de Mortagne, Perche, France. Son of Jean Poisson and Barbe Broue-Broust, he married Jacqueline Chamboy, daughter of Jacques and Marguerite Fauvel, on May 8th, 1644 in St-Jean de Mortagne. From this union were born five children. Arrived in the country in 1637, he returned to France three years later. He came back to settle down in Quebec in 1645 and settled permanently in Trois-Rivières in 1650. He was captured by the Iroquois in August 1652, while participating in an expedition against them, and died in captivity.
