The origin of the surname" Lemerise" is the surname "LeFebvre",a common French name. To differntiate themselves, the many sons of family would often add other names such as the place where they settled. Examples are: LeFebrve//Belisle(Belle Isle)/Lemerise(le merise-the "wild cherry en francais"). The family was researced in detail in a book by a retired monsignor in New Hampshire: "LeFebvres qui l'ont dit Lesmerises" (Lemerise). He researched all the parish records from 1640 in Quebec forward to numerous family members migrations to the U.S. My own birth family resides in Haverhill,MA.I now live in Houlton,ME. My children & grandchildren live in FL.
