Obituary of Thomas Thornton

Thomas (Tom) Claude Thornton, 82, of 644 Piedmont Highway, Piedmont, died June 3, 2007. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Susan Clevie Ward Thornton. Mr. Thornton retired from Bost Bakery and served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Lois Knight Thornton, of the home; two daughters, Kathryn Holden and her husband, Jim, and Susan Lindley and her husband, David, both of Piedmont; one son, Tommy Thornton of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren, Erin and Kyle Lindley and Scott Tollison; three great-grandchildren, Graham, Candace and Scott Tollison; two sisters, Louise Thornton of Piedmont and Mildred Holcombe of Greenville; and one brother, Carl Shipman and his wife, Sara, of Easley. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Thornton and Hettie Mae Shipman; and three brothers, George, Mack and Dick Thornton. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at Grove Station Baptist Church. Services will follow at the church at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Grove Station Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grove Station Baptist Church, 640 Piedmont Highway, Piedmont, SC 29673. The family is at the residence. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
