Obituary of Thomas Thornton

THORNTON, Thomas (Tom)1925 - 2016It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father. Dad lived a full, long life and was just short of his 91st birthday. Tom grew up on the farm where his parents homesteaded just outside Kindersley, Saskatchewan. His father, Wilberforce, was a farmer and his mother, Eva, a school teacher. He attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating in 1947 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He went on to have a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry. Tom married the love of his life, Merle (Christy) Tian while working in Regina in 1950. They moved to Alberta in 1955 and he finished his career in Calgary retiring in 1980. Tom is survived by his children, Rick (Lee- Anne) Thornton and their son Clayton and Eleanor (Jerry) Tiffany and their daughter Nicole. He was predeceased by his wife Merle, his parents, and his sisters Mary, Eva and Pauline. Dad will always be in our hearts and forever remembered by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at The Salvation Army, Glenmore Temple, 921- 68 Ave SW, Calgary, AB on Tuesday, February 23, at 1:00 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to The Salvation Army, Spiritual and Religious Care, 420 – 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0R9.
