Obituary of Roger-Eugene Miner


Roger Eugene Miner May 10, 1925 - March 25, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) MINER, Roger Eugene - 79, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII. He was born in Amherst on May 10, 1925, the eldest son of the late Chester and Gertrude (Stonehouse) Miner. Roger was a veteran of the Second World War serving as an instructor at Camp Utopia. After the war he attended Mount Allison University graduating with a B.A. followed by NSIT to earn his professional engineer degree. He began his career with Dosco in Sydney followed by moves to Amherst with Canada Electric, New Glasgow, NSPC then settling in Dartmouth in 1972 where he retired in 1986. He was an elder of Woodlawn United Church and a member of the men's club. He was active in the community volunteering for many charities and organizations including Community Concert Association, various figure skating clubs such as CHP, Jazz East, Neptune Theatre, Red Cross and tutoring math students. He enjoyed his summers gardening, swimming, and bicycling with his family in Murray Corner, N.B. Roger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bernice (Scott); daughters, Kathryn (Ray Dickens); Holly (Bill Smithers); grandchildren, Ashley Dickens, Caitlin and David Smithers, Steve, Greg and Barb Dickens; great-grandchildren, Jesse Wells, Rachael Dickens, Jacob and Katrina Dickens. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald; and son, David in infancy. Arrangements entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Memorial service 2 p.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn United Church, Rev. Gordon Murray and Mrs. Dianne Hill officiating. Private family burial to take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
