Obituary of Robert Paulson


Robert J. Paulson Chesterton Robert Joseph Paulson of Chesterton, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Horton VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. He was 83. He was born on September 16, 1920 in Gary, the son of Frank and Loretta (Ameling) Paulson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School class of 1938. On October 2, 1948 at Holy Angels Church in Gary, he married Lucille M. (Brier) Paulson, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, robert (Jan) and Peter (Dale) and one daughter, Mary Paulson, all of Chesterton; four grandchildren: Matthew, Zachary, Julie and Katie Paulson, all of Chesterton; one brother, Paul E. "Gene" (Barb) of Gary; one sister, Dolores Steffus of Merrillville; one aunt, Dee Dee Ameling of Chesterton and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Paulson and Dorothy Deiotte, and one brother Charles Edward. He was loved by all his family and will be dearly missed. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Seabee Corps of the U.S. Navy. He founded several Chesterton businesses, including Bob Paulson Service, Paulson Oil Company, Paulson's B-K Root Beer Drive-In, Broadway Wash Hut and Broadway Liquors. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton, Life member of Knights of Columbus Council #5929, 4th Degree Fr. Sorin Assembly. Bob was also a Life member of V.F.W. Post 2511, Porter, and was a Life member of American Legion Post 170, Chesterton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, 11:00 AM from St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Rev. James Meade officiating. Birial, Chesterton Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4 to 8 P.M. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. The Rosary will be recited by Fr. James Meade and the Fr. Sorin Assembly 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus, will hold a Ceremony Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County, VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso or St. Patrick Catholic School, Chesterton.
