Obituary of Robert-F. Ostrom

Robert F. Ostrom, 83, of Scotia, passed away on Sun-day, December 14, 2008, at his home. Born in Schenectady on March 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Leo and Myrtle Rathbun Ostrom. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. During WWII, Robert proudly served with the United States Army. Robert worked for General Electric Co. for 34 years until his retirement in 1985 and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Albany St. United Methodist Church in Schenectady. He, and his twin brother Earl, were members of Ballston Spa Country Club for many years. Robert also vol-unteered his time at Bethesda House. He enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in taking care of his home and landscaping. Married on October 4, 1947, he is survived by his wife, Amy White Ostrom. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Craig (Ruth Wells) Ostrom of Scotia; his daughter, Terry (Kevin) Baumes of Tunkhannock, PA; five grandchildren, Christopher Ostrom, Alissa and Jennifer Giacobbi, Lee (Jared) Shoe-maker and Dale Baumes; two great-grandchildren, Claire and Jack Shoemaker; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by two brothers, his twin brother, Earl Ostrom, and William Ostrom; and a grandson, Casey Ostrom. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, followed by interment in Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to ex-tend their gratitude to River-view Cancer Center in Rexford and Community Hospice of Schenectady for the compas-sion and dedication shown to Robert and his family and Albany RV for their care and allowing Craig to take time to be with his father.
