Obituary of Paul-Albert Rivers

Paul Albert Rivers, 80, of Hinesville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at home with family by his side after a short illness.Mr. Rivers was born on Dec. 20, 1931, in Black River, N.Y., to the late George Albert and Clara Florence (Phillips) Rivers of Watertown, N.Y. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, including a combat tour in the Korean War and he was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Rivers was awarded one silver star, one bronze star and two Purple Hearts during his military career.He later went on to work at the ITT Rayonier Paper Mill in Jesup for 17 years. Mr. Rivers hobbies included a lifetime love of music, fishing and woodworking. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Rivers was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinesville.He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.Survivors are his wife, Mary Vivian Rivers of Hinesville; three sons, Robert Albert Rivers of Las Vegas, Nev., Kenneth Paul Rivers of Pensacola, Fla., and Patrick Dennis Rivers of Hinesville; three daughters, Alice Marie Kingsbury of Brunswick, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Dyches of Ellabelle and Mary Kathryn "Katie" Govaerts of Fayetteville, Ga.; sister, Helen Goodreault of Adams, N.Y.; children's spouses; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at First Baptist Church in Hinesville. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors rendered.Pallbearers will be grandsons.The family has requested that remembrances be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 220 Memorial Dr., Hinesville, GA 31313.Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
