Obituary of Nelson-Douglas Thompson


THOMPSON, Nelson Douglas Nelson Douglas Thompson, beloved husband of Nina Thompson, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Nelson was born on 11 March 1929 in Montreal, Quebec. He attended Royal Arthur School in Montreal and Sir George College briefly to complete his schooling. Living in the tough neighborhood of Little Burgundy, Nelson took up boxing and won the Quebec Golden Gloves in 1947. Nelson joined the army in 1952 and served in Hannover, Germany for a period of one year and remained with The Queen's Own Rifles until 1966 when he returned obtaining the Canadian Decoration (C.D.) and the Special Service Medal (NATO). Nelson worked for the City of Calgary for three years and at SAIT for twenty years as the Equipment Manager for Athletics. Whilst working at SAIT, he took the RFM course and passed with honours. He is survived by three daughters and seven grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.mem.com .
