Obituary of Mary Lowry


LOWRY, Sister Mary - At the Care Centre at the residence of Sisters of St. Joseph, London on Thursday, June 7, 2007, Sister Mary Lowry (Mary Evangelist) of the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London, in her 90th year. Remembered by her brother James Francis and nephews Bill and Peter Lowry. Sister Mary is predeceased by her mother Grace Cecilia Morin, her father James Henry Lowry, her sister Louise (Sister Louise Lowry C.S.J.), her brothers Peter, James and John Morin. Sister Mary graduated from Nursing in 1940, acquired her B.Sc.N. from the University of Western Ontario in 1966 and became a member of the Canadian Hospital Association in 1970. In her profession as a nurse, Sister Mary became a night supervisor at St. Joseph's Hospital in London and Chatham and from 1947 - 1954, Sister Mary taught nurses in training as well as being the supervisor for the operating room at St. Joseph's Hospital, London. From 1958 - 1965 and from 1965 - 1968, Sister Mary was a supervisor for the operating rooms at St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia and Chatham respectively. Her supervisory skills, competence in her profession and her warm manner of relating to people allowed her to assume even greater responsibilities and in 1968 - 1977, she was appointed Surgical Supervisor and Director of Nursing, St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia and in 1978 -1979 Assistant Administrator, St. Joseph's Hospital, Chatham. Throughout her life, Sister Mary dedicated herself to the dear neighbour in a variety of ways. After a career in nursing, Sister Mary cared for women in need at Queens Avenue, London, ministered as pastoral Assistant at St. Anne's Parish, St. Thomas and in 1986, Sister Mary moved to Mount St. Joseph where she spent these past years ministering to the Sisters in a variety of ways. Sister Mary lived life in abundance, was ever grateful to God for her friends in community as well as those she met in health care. Her warm personality, her hearty laugh, her marvelous sense of humor, her great love of God enabled her to walk joyfully the path of life. Though Sister Mary will be greatly missed by her family, her friends in community, the nursing staff, we know that God will welcome this faithful servant to live joyfully forever in God's love. Resting at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London on Monday, June 11, 2007 after 2 o'clock. Vigil Service will be held at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph on Monday evening at 7 o'clock. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Joseph Chapel, residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London on Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007 at 10 o'clock.
