Obituary of John-Francis Travers


TRAVERS John Francis Xavier, passed away at Van Dyk Manor, his residence, in Montclair, NJ on January 14, 2011. He was 83 years old. He formerly lived in Hawthorne, Wayne and Park Ridge, NJ. John was born in New York City in 1927. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College, John worked in the communications industry. He was employed for many years at the ITT subsidiary Federal Electric Corporation, in Paramus, NJ, until his retirement in 1989. His jobs afforded him the opportunity to travel throughout the world. John loved to share with his family all the different cultures and customs he experienced during his travels abroad. He also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and nature. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Leila of 61 years. He is survived by his loving daughters, Elise Baranowski and her husband John; Emily Buhler and her husband Gary; Karen Travers and her husband Christopher Healy. He was the cherished grandfather to Nicholas, Charles, and Matthew Baranowski as well as Kelley and David Buhler. He was also the adored brother to his sister Marilyn Morrison. A Memorial service will be held at St. Mary's RC Church in Denville on Tuesday January 18 at 10 AM. Entombment services will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broadacres Drive, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. Arrangements are under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services in Denville.
