BARRINGTON — Jean Paul "Jay" Hamann, 61, of Benajah Drive, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a long, courageous battle with cancer.Born in Biddeford, Maine, Nov. 25, 1947, the third oldest of Rodolphe and Simonne (Dulac) Hamann's nine children, he grew up in Rochester, going on to earn degrees in electrical mechanical design and business administration. He was also a dedicated communicant of St. Charles Church in Dover.Jay served his country in the U.S. Army and was an honored veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a multitalented business entrepreneur, having opened and operated many local area businesses, including Eagle Window and Door, Pillar to Post Home Inspection and Medallion Healthy Homes. Jay enjoyed tennis, playing the guitar, figure skating and was a dedicated UNH hockey fan (Go Wildcats!).Jay was a devoted and loving family man who took great joy in attending his children's and grandchildren's school and sports events. He was affectionately nicknamed 'Happy' by his grandchildren. Jay inspired his family and friends by living his life passionately and with dignity. As a husband, father and grandfather, he will always be remembered for how to live life simply, love loved ones thoroughly and exist as a person of admiration.Jay is survived by his wife, Christine M. (Clark) Hamann of Barrington; daughters Jennifer L. Brock and her husband Forrest Brock as well as Susan E. Hamann, all of Rochester; two grandchildren, Samuel F. Brock and Sullivan N. Brock; his mother, Simonne Hamann of Rochester; siblings Jacqueline Peters of Rochester, Norbert Hamann of Rochester, Doris Allard of Florida, Donald Hamann of Rochester, Bernard Hamann of Milton, Vicky Page of Tennessee and Cathy Mulville of Biddeford, Maine. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Charles Hamann of Milton.Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6 to 8 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, 577 Central Ave., Dover.
