Obituary of James-B. -Van Dyk

Van Dyk, James B. RENSSELAER James B. Van Dyk, 82, died Monday, January 22, 2007 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Born and educated in Rensselaer, he was a graduate of Albany Business College and attended New York University. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was employed by the D & H Railway for 42 years, retiring in 1984 as assistant comptroller. Mr. Van Dyk was an avid golfer and a member of Cordial Greens Country Club for 26 years and later Winding Brook Country Club. He was a lifetime member of Rensselaer City Pumper #4 Fire Department. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Marvin Van Dyk; a brother, Marvin Van Dyk. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Delores (Clas) Van Dyk; two daughters, Joanne M. (Roscoe) Haynes, Mary E. (Bill) Gwynn of East Greenbush; two sons, J. Bruce (Peg) Van Dyk of West Sand Lake, Robert A. (Kathie) Van Dyk of Schodack; and a brother, Branson Van Dyk of Latham; also survived by five grandsons, Jeffery, Justin, Scott and Craig Van Dyk, Mathew Haynes; one granddaughter, Kathryn Gwynn; and three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Andrew and Aidan Van Dyk. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday 10:00 a.m. in the 1st United Methodist Church, Hayes Road, East Greenbush, N.Y. Friends may call in the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y. The family has requested that those who wish to remember Jim make contributions to Church of the Redeemer, 1249 Third St., Rensselaer or East Greenbush, 1st United Methodist Church, Hayes Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061 in his memory.
