Obituary of James-William Allan


JAMES WILLIAM ALLAN Grant-Valkaria, FL James William Allan, a devoted husband and father, passed peacefully on Monday December 9, 2013 at his home in Grant. His friends knew him as Jim and his grandchildren knew him as Poppie. He was born on May 3, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio to the late William Leland and Violet May Allan. Jim married his blushing bride, Bonnie Lee Hagerman, on February 11, 1964 in Boynton Beach, FL. They made Grant their permanent hometown in May of 1974. He was in the Navy for 6 years, a real estate broker and mobile home dealer in Barefoot Bay and surrounding areas for 24 years, and a specialized freight contractor for Fed Ex Custom Critical for 19 years. He was also a member of the Daytona Beach Jaycee's, participated in Indian Guides with his son, was a founding member of Sebastian Inlet Sportfishing Association (SISA), worked the Grant seafood festival for 20 + years (The linguini man), volunteered with the C.O.P.S. of Brevard County Sheriff Dept., and the all-round DIY and mechanic for family and close friends. Jim loved to be out on the water or at a campground. He was an avid boatman and deep sea fisherman who spent 20 + summers crossing the ocean to the Bahamas with family and boating buddies. He spent his younger years as a part of his uncle's crew in several sailing regattas on Lake Erie. He also camped at Long Point with family and friends every Thanksgiving for 20 + years, a time the children and grandchildren cherish. In addition, he and Bonnie spent their later years traveling the country for both work and pleasure. Jim is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sister, Judith Allan Haubiel and her husband Cletus of Pickerington, OH; son, James William Allan II and his wife Deanna; daughter, Denice Marie Allan Morris and her husband Kevin; five grandchildren; Courtney Briana Morris Clermont and her husband Justin, Victoria Logan Morris, Nicholas William Allan, Christopher Lealand Allan, and Timothy Joel Morris; one great grandson, Skyler Blayne Clermont; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Grant Community Club, 4580 First Street in Grant, Fl. Fellowship will immediately follow the service. All family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jim's name to help with the needs of the family. Please mail gifts to P.O. Box 188, Grant, FL 32949.
