Obituary of James-Herbert Golden

GOLDEN, JAMES HERBERT was embraced by angel's wings upon the autumn winds, Sunday November 11, 2012. His loving family surrounded him as he ascended to the arms of his Father in Heaven. "Herb" as he was known by many, entered this world on October 21, 1932 to the parents of Macie Viola and Henry Carlton Golden. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Milton, Earl, George, and Henry. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 52 years, Addie Bee (Dennis) Golden; daughter, Deborah Golden-Smith (Barron) of Bessemer; son, James Timothy Golden (Teresa) of Bessemer; grandchildren; Jade (Jocelynn) Golden, and Noah Golden; great grandchildren; Cody and Emrylyd Golden; sisters, Lila Lee (Smith) and Peggy (Bush); along with numerous nieces and nephews. Herb graduated from Hueytown High School in 1950 where many people remember him from driving the school bus. He later served in the U.S. Army where he made the rank of Corporal before coming home to work at US Steel. In 1955 he went to work for South Central Bell and was a member of CWA where he retired as a toll-testing technician in 1988. He had two cats: Ruddy was his inside companion, who loved to take rides on his walker through the house. And Tom, his outside companion, was always by his side as he enjoyed smoking his pipe on the front porch at home. Herb always loved to garden, and looked forward to each spring so he could watch as God gave life and re-birth to the plants and trees. He was a very kind, generous and compassionate man to all people who knew him. To his family he was a beacon of wisdom who passed on the importance of honesty, morals, integrity and a solid belief in living a Christian life. He was and always will be, remembered as a very loving and devoted husband and father and will be missed deeply. Funeral services will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens Hoover.
