Obituary of Irene Terrio

Irene Melanson 1914 - 2006 AMHERST, NS - Irene Melanson, age 92, of Amherst, passed away at the Gables Lodge in Amherst on Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Born in Mill Creek, NS, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Jennie (DesBarres) Terrio. Irene was a long term member of Nativity of our Lady Parish, and Nativity of our Lady Parish CWL; past president, she was a recipient of the Maple Leaf Service Pin. She was an amateur historian and genealogist who researched and compiled many families histories. Irene was awarded the Canadian Heritage Award for the restoration of St. Denis's Church in Minudie. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Fred Melanson of West Amherst; three sons, Warren (Anne Matheson), Halifax, Arnold (Eleanor), Truro, and Gerald (Patricia Robertson), Halifax; four grandchildren, Andrea, Nadine, Sarah and Joseph; one great grandson, Nicholas; a sister, Francis Legere, River Hebert; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant sister, Modeste; brothers, James, Ronald, Jude, and Joseph; and great granddaughter, Jenica Saulnier. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (667-8777). Visitation will take place at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3rd, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Parish prayers will take place at the funeral home Sunday night, December 3rd, 2006 at 8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Charles site of Holy Family Parish, 63 Church St. on Monday, December 4th, 2006 at 10 am, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will take place in the Saint Charles - Nativity Parish Cemetery.
