Obituary of Gerald Schmidt

Gerald "Gerry" Schmidt, 69, of Syracuse passed away on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Gerry was born in 1946 to the late Marion and William Schmidt. He was employed with the Syracuse City School District for 35 years, was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and was a 50 year member of the Elks Club. Gerry enjoyed umpiring softball with the Red Shirts, which he did for some 25 years, bowling and trips to the Turning Stone Casino. Survivors include his brother, Donald (Patricia) Schmidt of Liverpool; his nephew, Christopher (Elizabeth) and grandnephew, Henry, all of Solvay. Calling hours will be Monday, 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, with services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests donations be made to the Syracuse Police Benevolent Assoc., 511 S. State St., Syracuse, NY 13202, in memory of Gerald.
