Obituary of George Blackwell

George W. "Bill" Blackwell, 79, of Mauldin, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010.Born in Kings Mountain, N.C., he was the son of the late Harrison Bright and Novella Lee Shipman Blackwell.He was Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a NASCAR Chief Stuard with the Greenville Pickens Speedway for 47 years and a member of the Shriner's.He was a Car salesman, owning his own lot as well as worked for the Greenville News for over 20 years as a Typesetter.He is survived by a son: William Steven Blackwell of Easley; a daughter: Anne Marie Blackwell of Maudlin; a sister: Faye Adkins of Port Richey, Fla.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law: Dean and Anne Blackwell of Rock Hill and Donald R. and Ruth Blackwell of Mauldin.He was predeceased by his wife: Mary Ann Long Blackwell.A memorial service will be held at New Life Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church Hwy 253, 2691 Blue Ridge Dr., Greenville, SC 29611 and/or McCall Hospice House 1836 W.
