Obituary of Francis Gallagher


FRANCIS (FRANK) GALLAGHER LANSING, IL Francis Gallagher, age 92, of Lansing, IL, passed away September 3, 2008. He was born in Chicago, IL the son of Patrick Gallagher and Mary McNeal Gallagher. Frank left school at an early age to join the C.C. Civilian Corps to help support his mother and younger siblings as his mother was widowed at an early age. In 1941 he answered his country's call for WWII where he served in the 6th Infantry Division for four years. Most of Frank's service was in the Philippines and New Guinea where he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. In July of 1948, Frank married Isabelle Fraisier who preceded him in death in 1974. On June 5, 1977, he married Edith James (nee Lippelt) who survives. He is also survived by four step-children: Robin (Bob) Shepherd, Melvin (Karen) James, Carol (Frank) Rogers and Nancy (Bill) Johnson. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one nephew, Michael (Barb) Gallagher; three nieces: Karen Gallagher, Geralyn Russell and Donna (Chris) Strom. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: James (late Ruth) Gallagher and Edward (Lillian) Gallagher; and one sister, Mary (late George) Santo. Frank retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, former member of St. Ann Seniors, the Young Pioneers of St. John Lutheran Church and a former member of the CCC Chapter of Alumni. Frank was a resident of Lansing, IL for the past 40 years. He was a pleasant, outgoing person and dearly loved by all of his family. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Ann Catholic Church, 3010 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL with burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Schroeder -Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann Church.
