Obituary of Eugene-Charles McCarthy


Eugene Charles McCarthy, 82, died on Nov. 20, 2008, at Samantha Wilson Care Center at Bayview. He was born in Providence, R.I., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1972, moving here from Bristol, R.I. Eugene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduation he took over the family business and operated the famous Lobster Pot Restaurant in Bristol for 40 years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the St. Augustine Shores Men's Golf Association. Eugene is survived by his seven children, a stepdaughter and one sister, Betty Sullivan, of Bristol. Private services and interment will take place at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
