Obituary of Elisabeth-Bradshaw North


NORTH Elisabeth Bradshaw "Betty" North, 95, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006 at home with her family. Mrs. North was born December 19, 1910 to the late Stephen Elmer Whitaker and Bertha Matilda Whitaker, nee Stedge. She retired in 1971 from the Army Corps of Engineers. Betty was a life time member of the Garden Center Circle of the Garden Club of Jacksonville. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Simon Peter North. Survivors include: a daughter, Elisabeth B. Nightingale and her husband Ken; three grandsons, Michael Smithgall, his wife MaryJane and their children, Brittny and Hunter; Stephen Smithgall, his wife Shannon and their children, Victoria and Trevor; and Alan Smithgall, his wife Stephanie and their children, Rhett, Cameron and Maya; four step-grandchildren, Tammy Moore, Tacoma Bonin, Wayne Nightingale, his wife Leslie, Paul Batten, his wife Yvonne; six step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Avenue, with Chaplain Grant Wheeler officiating. The committal service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday at North Cemetery in DuPont, Georgia, with Rev. George O'Berry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday (TODAY) at the funeral home.
