Obituary of Edward Payne


Edward Payne Edward "Uncle Bubba" Payne, 88, a retired presser who had worked for Jenkins Valve in Bridgeport, Conn., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002. He is survived by a sister, Mamie V. Blake (and husband Robert Blake Sr.) of Tallahassee. The service will be at noon EDT Monday at Bethel AME Church in Bridgeport, with burial at Lakeview Cemetery.Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. EDT until the service Monday at the church. Strong & Jones Funeral Home (224-2139) is handling local arrangements and George J. Peterson Funeral Home in Bridgeport (203-384-8735) is handling service arrangements. A native of Tallahassee, he had lived in Bridgeport most of his life.He was married to Margaret Payne, who died in 1999. He was a member of Bethel AME Church in Bridgeport. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. Other survivors include two nephews, George Austin of Bridgeport and Robert Blake Jr. of Newnan, Ga.; six nieces, Mary Alice Johnson of Tallahassee, Cora A. Wright of Bridgeport, Dolores A. Blake of Jamaica, N.Y., Jenny L. Muse of Bridgeport, Winifred Richardson of Indianapolis and Dorothy Bridgeforth of Bridgeport; and a host of other family members and friends.
