Obituary of Douglas-James Thompson


THOMPSON, Douglas James - Passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 27, 2008 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Grace Wallace and loving father of Mark Wallace and his partner Robert Beecroft and Bruce Douglas and his wife Barbara Weiss all of Toronto, Anne Elizabeth Isaac and her husband Wayne and Catherine Grace Thompson all of Cambridge. Also survived by 5 grandchildren David, Esther, Clare, William and Luke, sisters in law Mary Thompson and Mildred Thompson both of Collingwood. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Nina Thompson and brothers Murray, Bruce Vernon and Ivan. Mr. Thompson was born on June 10, 1923 in Collingwood. He sailed on the Great Lakes for 20 years. After coming ashore he worked for the Ontario School for The Deaf in Milton. He retired as Manager of Building Services for Trinity College, Toronto, a member of St. John's On-The-Hill United Church and Blackwood Masonic Lodge, Woodbridge. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Tuesday July 29, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. John's On-The-Hill United Church, 241 Cedar Street, Cambridge. Cremation to follow. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, St. John's On-The-Hill United Church and The Bruce Trail Association and would be appreciated by the family.
