Obituary of Donald-Charles Newton

September 22, 2003 Donald Charles Newton died Monday in Greenville, North Carolina, where he had been a resident since 1998. He was 94. Born in Hebron, Maine October 1, 1908, he resided in Syracuse most of his life. He is survived by his wife of 69years, Marian (Frisbie), by a daughter, Donna Mitchell (Francis) of King Ferry, NY, and a son, Douglas Newton MD (Joanne) of Greenville, NC. A second son, Paul Newton (Leanne) died in California in 1986. He is survived by grandchildren Mary Heather Harrington (James) of Lansing, NY, John Mitchell (Diane) of San Mateo, CA, Peter Mitchell (Tony) of Winston-Salem, NC, Martha Rescigno (Joseph) of Syracuse, Paul Mitchell of Burlington, VT, Jennifer Patterson (James) of Wilmington, NC, Jason Newton (Shannon) of Raleigh, NC, James Newton of LaHonda, CA, and Rebecca Newton of Torrance, CA. There are twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Newton graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1930, then earned a Masters degree in economics in 1933. He was briefly employed by Onondaga Pottery in Syracuse, then began a career with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company (now Massachusetts Mutual) which spanned more than 50 years. He was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, the Leaders Round Table and the Masters Club. He was involved in many civic, charitable and church activities in the Syracuse area. The funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church United, 620 W. Genesee St. Syracuse at 2 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2003. Refreshment will be served following the service.
