MANCHESTER - Catherine P. "Kay" Monaghan Moran, 85, died July 22, 2011, at a local health care facility after a period of declining health. She was born on Sept. 26, 1925, in Manchester, the daughter of Patrick J. and Delia (Reddington) Monaghan. She was the youngest of six children and grew up in "The Fields" section of the city and remained true to her Irish heritage. She attended the former McDonald School, class of 1939, and was a 1943 graduate of Central High School. Mrs. Moran was the wife of the late John F. Moran, who died Jan. 14, 2008. Prior to retirement in 1979, she worked for Travelers Insurance Company for 20 years, having filled the rolls of supervisor and marketing assistant. She was active in the city's old Ward 5, where she was ward clerk from 1953 to 1973. She also served on the school board for 12 years from 1961 to 1973. Mrs. Moran was an active worker for the former Gov. John King campaign. She was a lifetime member of the former St. Anne Parish. Her love for the parish led her to volunteer on several church committees, including the parish council, Diocesan school board, the 100th, 125th and 150th parish anniversaries, and the annual St. Patrick's Day dinners. Mrs. Moran also served as president of the St. Anne Women's Guild and in March of 1996, was honored as Prime Time Senior of the Month. She spent 13 years volunteering in the pastoral care department. In 1999, she was awarded the "Mother Frances Ward" award for outstanding Irish Catholic by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and in 2009 was selected by the A.O.H. and L.A.O.H to be "Grand Marshal" of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She lovingly shared her life with her community, and her service was but an extension of her faith and love of people. Family members include her brother, John F. Monaghan of Manchester; nephews, John Doherty of Nashua and Joseph Doherty of Port Sanilac, Mich., Kevin, Stephen and David Monaghan, all of Manchester; nieces Kathleen Doherty Whitham of Richmond and Joanne Monaghan Gonzales of Manchester; five grandnephews, four grandnieces; two great-grandnephews and a great-grandniece; many relatives in Ireland, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Michigan and New Hampshire.
