Obituary of Carl-S. Payne


NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Entered into rest Thursday, evening, December 28, 2006 at the home his daughter, Mr. Carl S. Payne, 85, of North Augusta, SC, husband of the late Minnie Davis Payne and son of the late Gaston and Mattie Myer Payne. Born in Greenville, SC, Carl had lived in Aiken County, SC, since 1962 and retired from DSM Chemical as a Pipe fitter in 1986 after twenty four years of service. He was a faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church and was also a member of "The over the Hill Gang". A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Carl loved working in his yard and fishing. He is survived by daughters, Sandra Gale Basinger, (Terry) and Kay Lane, both of Hephzibah, GA; a son, Michael Stephen Payne, (Melanie) Greenville, SC; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, afternoon, January 2nd, 2007 at 2 o'clock at Lakeside Baptist Church, Clearwater, SC, with Pastor Bill Reese and Pastor John George officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be Travis Basinger, Gabriel Lane, Jamey Lane, and Shaun Cosnahan. The family has asked that if so desired memorials in memory of Carl be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1730, Clearwater, SC 29822. The family will receive friends Tuesday, morning, January 2nd, 2007 from 11 o'clock until 1:30 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, U.S. Hwy.
