Obituary of Arthur-J. Gratton

ARTHUR J. GRATTON COLCHESTER - Arthur J. Gratton, 79, a longtime resident of Colchester died peacefully with loving family by his side in Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. Arthur was born in Colchester on Jan. 13, 1931, the son of Arthur A. and Eleanor (McDonald) Gratton, was educated in Waitsfield, and served his country for the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated and hard worker who was employed for many years at Dufresne's Service Station and Koffee Kup Bakery, and was the proud owner and operator of Richmond Cash Mart. He enjoyed sightseeing, especially in Vermont, gardening, deepsea fishing, and attending St. Anne's Shrine. Art is survived by five children; six stepchildren; his longtime partner, Carol A. Palin; many grand- children and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Gratton and Theresa Galipeau; his brother, Raymond Gratton and his wife Marcella; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Armand Gratton; and sisters, Elaine Brooks, Irene Gaboriault, and Gloria Blair. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 3rd at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Gratton by the Vermont National Guard.
