Obituary of Alice Mason

Alice G. A long time resident of Shelbourne St. in Horseheads passed away Monday evening August 26, 2002 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center at the age of 89. Born in Big Flats, Alice was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Keller Hartman. She married James Mason on April 15, 1932 in Elmira Heights and he predeceased her on December 7, 1965. She was a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church. Her many interest included cookbooks, word puzzles, Yahtzee and caring for the many birds that shared her property. She leaves behind her endless hours of work in the many quilts she created throughout her life. Alice was a devoted mother to her loving children who survive her, a daughter and son-in-law, Janice & Charles Kinney of Horseheads; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest & Patricia Mason of Breesport; her grandchildren, Reverend Kathleen & Scott Greene, Lisa Bowers, Michael & Kim Kinney, David & Kristie Kinney, Wayne & Wendy Mason, Matthew & Sue Mason, Curtis Mason; sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & cousins. Alice was predeceased by her son, Richard James Mason in 1936 and her sister, Helena Rumsey. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday evening August 28, 2002 from 7-9PM and also on Thursday from 12(noon)-2 PM. Funeral services will take place at the conclusion of visitation on Thursday (2PM) with her granddaughter the Reverend Kathleen Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats. Memorial donations may be directed to the Patient Care Fund of the Falck Cancer Center, 600 Roe Ave. Elmira, NY 14905 in her memory.
