NORTH SPRINGFIELD - William H. "Sam" Pitts, 79, of North Springfield, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at his home.He was born April 14, 1932, in Vermont, the son of John and Lottie Pitts of Belmont.Survivors include his wife, Joan; seven children, William Jr. of Texas, Michael, Steven, Robert, Diane and Karen, all of New York, and Lorie Scott of Springfield; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.He had varied careers, ranging from the oil fields in Texas, to the woolen mills in Ludlow.His greatest passion was auto mechanics. He was a great outdoorsman as well. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, logging and camping.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice of New Hampshire and Vermont. A memorial service on Sam's birthday is being planned for April 14, 2012.
