William E. Pitts, age 77, of Braintree, died peacefully, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at Quincy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Pitts was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy and Weymouth. He lived in Braintree for the last forty-eight years. He was employed for Bethlehem Steel Company and General Dynamics at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy for thirty-five years. Mr. Pitts was affectionately known as Bancy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as to their friends. He was dedicated to his family and enjoyed travelling, especially taking family vacations. Beloved husband for fifty-two years of Barbara E. (Koljanen) Pitts. Devoted father of Debra A. Pitts of Braintree and the late William E. Pitts Jr. Loving grandfather of Keith F. Lazaron II, Sean M. Lazaron, Kerri A. Baker, and Mikayla M. Spinale. Loving great-grandfather of Jake W. Lazaron and Olivia R. Baker. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, One Independence Ave., Quincy, Monday, Jan. 23 at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 55 Commercial St., Weymouth Landing at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
