CAMBURN, William D. LCDR USNR-R Died Saturday, June 25,2011 at the Westminster Suncoast Retirement Center in St. Petersburg, following a brief illness and declining health. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Anna May Camburn, his first wife Anne Dattilo, three brothers Albert Jr., Warren and Richard and a sister Anna Bozarth. He was also predeceased by his stepdaughter, Susan Harvest. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara. He is also survived by his sons Jim (Kathy) of Stratford, NJ, Bob (Diane) of Tuckahoe, NJ; and his daughter Nina (Terry) Brown of Palermo, NJ; he is also survived by a stepson, Charles Shinn (Suzanne) of Fort Collins, Co. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. Camburn was born on July 3, 1920 in Ocean City, NJ, graduated from Ocean City High School in 1939, attended the Tome Preparatory School in Bainbridge, MD and Georgia Tech University majoring in Architecture but leaving to accept a commission in the United States Navy. He served as a navigator and later as a navigation instructor during his active duty service in WWII. After the war, he remained active in the Navy Reserve serving at the Naval Air Station in Pomona, NJ and eventually as the Administration officer for the reserve program at Lakehurst, NJ. He retired after 29 years of active and reserve service. After leaving Active Duty, Mr. Camburn joined with his father to operate Camburn Builders in Ocean City. He operated the firm until his retirement. Mr. Camburn was a charter member of the Ocean City Exchange Club. He was an active member of the Holy Spirit High School Parents Club, served a number of years as president and operated the Saturday Night Bingo games for many years Following his retirement, he relocated to St. Petersburg, where he became involved in volunteering with his church, Christ Methodist in St. Petersburg and also at Westminster Suncoast where he was involved for many years as a Bingo caller. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on July 20th at Westminster Suncoast beginning at 10 am. His final resting place will be at the Bay Pines National Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the Westminster Suncoast Scholarship Fund located at 6909 Dr. Martin Luther King Street South, St. Petersburg, Fl. 33705.
