On August 15, 2001, in his 83rd year. From heart and lung failure after a lengthy and valiant struggle with Parkinson's disease. Beloved husband to Jillian. Loving father of Deborah (Burritt's Rapids), Nicola Dersnah (Saudi Arabia), Andrea Wilson (Bermuda) and Craig (Brockville). Dear 'Poppa' to Stacey, Megan, Graham and Emma. Survived by his loving brother, Stanley (Joan) of Barrie. Predeceased by sister Ruby and brother Edward. With tremendous strength and courage, Victor braved the devastating confines of Parkinson's disease. As was his way, he was stoic and determined to live his life to the fullest. With a never-ending passion for the sea, he was a boat owner all his life, although sadly he was never able to captain 'Kestrel VI' purchased shortly before entering hospital. Victor served proudly with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) during WWII aboard HMCS 'Eastview' as a Lt. (ENG.) on North Atlantic Convoy duty, and later with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. Born in Exmouth, England, raised in Kent, he attended Sir Roger Manwood's Grammar School for Boys and was later certified as a mechanical engineer from the British Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He held a number of senior contracts and marketing positions in the aerospace industry and was a pioneer at age twenty-one as a special technical representative with the Victory Aircraft Company on the Hampden Bomber, and also a project engineer on the Hurricane. He also worked for Short Brothers, British Overseas Airways, A.V. Roe Canada, Bristol Aerospace (Winnipeg) and was Senior Vice President of Litton Industries in both Canada and Europe. Upon retirement from Litton, he represented the business interests of Oto Melara (Italy) in Canada. He was honoured to accept a term of appointment as Chairman of the Canadian NATO Industrial Advisory Group (NIAG). He also served as Chairman of the Marketing Committee of the Air Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), was a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Shipbuilding and Ship Repairing Association (CSSRA), and was on the Industrial Advisory Committee of the Canadian Commercial Corporation. Always active, he was a gentleman farmer, whose lifelong interest in antiques led to the restoration of a manor house in Oxford Mills and subsequent antique business, where Victor was an expert in fine silver and porcelain. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed playing bridge, home movies, fine wines, following family activities and throwing elegant and entertaining parties. He was charming, committed, creative and robust, and leaves as his legacy, his energy, determination and joie de vivre. Barclay Funeral Home. Ottawa Citizen, August 18, 2001
