McGovern, 64, an area resident for 30 years and formerly of the Bronx, died on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Bronx on September 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Callahan McGovern. Tom had worked as a paper handler for the New York Times. He then worked as an Engineer and Manager for IBM, East Fishkill for 27 years until his retirement in 2010. Tom was an avid golfer who played in several leagues. He was also a sports fanatic who loved baseball (New York Mets), football (New York Jets), hockey (New York Rangers) as well as horseracing. Tom was an avid concert attendee, never missing the opportunity to see the Grateful Dead. In addition, he was one of the owners of The Iron Furnace in Verbank. Tom was an amazing man who was liked by all. He was smart witted with an acute sense of humor. His positive nature and outlook on life made people gravitate to him. Since 2009, Tom made a second home in St. Pete's Beach, Florida. His easy going and fun loving personality allowed him to form many lasting friendships there as well. On May 5, 2003 in Hawaii, Tom married Lorraine DeNunzio who survives at home. He is also survived by his stepson, Richard Holmes of Millbrook; his grandsons, Gunnar James Holmes of Florida and Kayden James Holmes of Verbank; his brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Fran DeNunzio; his sisters-in-law, Christine, Dottie and Kathy DeNunzio; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Tom was predeceased by his brother, James McGovern; and his brothers-in-law, Vincent and Paul DeNunzio. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville.
