Mr. Robert William Drake May 17, 1918 - December 31, 2008 Drake, Robert William Robert W. Drake, 1918-2008, passed away peacefully at the Toronto East General Hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Robert (Bob) lived a very fulfilling life and was very active in the community and church after his retirement. Bob actively volunteered at two major hospitals in Toronto and was a proud and proactive member of the Beaches Lions Club for 20 years. Even at the ripe old age of 86 Bob energetically participated in the Beaches Easter Day Parade and received numerous awards for his dedication, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship presented by the Lions Club International Foundation. This fellowship award is the foundations highest honour given for humanitarian service. Bob also received the International Volunteer of the year award, in 2001 by the United Nations General Assembly for outstanding service in the community. For those who knew Bob well, he was a kind, honest, caring and a dedicated husband, father and trusted friend to many. Robert beloved husband of the late Bertha for over 62 Years. Loving and devoted father of his two sons, Ralph (Ljiljana) and Don (Marie). Cherished grandfather of Chris (Linda), Nicholas (Naila), Nathalie-Anne, and Stéphanie. Dear great-grandfather of Cassandra, Jeremy, Nathan, and Neesha. Survived by his sister Gwen (Nelson). Robert has now joined his loving wife, dear family members and friends that have passed on before him. Family and friends will be received at the SHERRIN FUNERAL HOME, 873 Kingston Road, Toronto (west of Victoria Park) 416-698-2861, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow. Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
