Richard Allan Gauvin, 71 COLCHESTER, Conn. -- Richard Allan Gauvin, 71, of School Road, Col- chester,Conn., and formerly of Bath, passed away Thursday eve- ning, Dec. 1, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 7, 1934 in Bath, he was a son of the late Leo J. and Doris E. (Pierce) Gauvin. He attended schools in Bath, and in 1951, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War until his discharge in 1955. Following his service, he worked for the Bath Iron Works and studied electrical engineering at Southern Maine Vocational Institute in South Portland. In 1962, he went to work as a draftsman for 33 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut until his retirement. In 1972, he wed the former Lois Day of New Sharon and in March of 1974, they welcomed their son, Brian. In his spare time, Richard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, skiing, golf and competitive sailing and was an active follower of UCONN basketball. He was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church in Colchester and grew up in St. Mary's Parish in Bath, where he also joined the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Betsy Gauvin of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; his former wife, Lois Gauvin of Colchester; his sister, Susan Adam of New York City; two brothers, Raymond and wife, Louise Gauvin of Brunswick and David Gauvin of Bath; and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert. In Connecticut, calling hours were held on Saturday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. In Maine, friends may call 6-8 p.m., Monday at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. The funeral will assemble starting at 9 a.m., at the funeral home before the celebration of the Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath.
