Maurice A. Dyer, 85 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Maurice A. Dyer, 85, formerly of Scarborough, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the South Portland Nursing Home. He was born in Westbrook, a son of George M. and Elizabeth Pillsbury Dyer. He was raised and educated in Westbrook, where he an accomplished athlete, especially in football. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, during the war he received the Purple Heart and was also a P.O.W. in Germany. After the war he moved to Scarborough, he had been employed by the S.D. Warren Co. for over 32 years. He was a member of the V.F.W., the D.A.V., the American Legion and the Odd Fellows. Maurice loved being with his family and grandchildren, he also enjoyed collecting stamps and snowmobiling. His wife Germaine died in 1985. He is survived by two sons, Ronald M. Dyer of Gorham, Dennis M. Dyer of Scarborough; a daughter, Darlene Emmons of Scarborough; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth G. Dyer of Rohersville, Md.; and a sister, Velma Greenlaw of Standish. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Funeral services will be at the Funeral Home Monday at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at the South Portland Nursing home for the care and compassion, their father received.
