November 21, 2007 Mary O'Donnell Montague, 86, passed peacefully on Wednesday after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in 1921 in Williamsport, PA. She attended Most Holy Rosary School through grade 10 and graduated fromthe Convent School in 1938. She received her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1942 and began an internship in dietetics at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, (1943-1944). It was later at Lovell General Hospital in Fort Devens, MA, that she met her future husband, Edward "Monty" Montague, who was recovering from war wounds. After her internship, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1944 and was stationed in the Midlands (Herefordshire) in England during 1944-1945. Mary and Monty married in 1946 and settled down to 52 years of family life in Syracuse. In 1962 Mary began a business partnership with the Hawley Photography Studio in Syracuse, photographing newborns at four local hospitals (1962-1970). In 1970 she was appointed activities director for the Northeast Side People's Organization. In 1971 she became the placement director at the Volunteer Center, Syracuse. In 1973 she was appointed executive director of the Corinthian Foundation, Inc., with responsibility for the Wagon Wheel Senior Center. In 1977 she became community associate in the All-University Gerontology Center at Syracuse University. In 1983 she completed the master's program in Syracuse University's School of Education, earning her M.S. in adult education. Mary retired from Syracuse University in 1988. In retirement, Mary and Monty traveled often to their cottage in Kilmore Quay, County Wexford, Ireland, taking family with them. She spent her remaining years working on her voluminous family records and journals, photos and family Web site. Mary was a founding member of St. Ann's Parish. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward M. and Florence V. O'Donnell; husband, Edward T. Montague; son, John M. Montague; and son-in-law, Donald V. Murphy III. Survivors: her children, Edward T. Jr. (Mary Ellen), James H. (Bethany), Jeremy R. and Ellen M. Flynn (Robert); 16 grandchildren, John (Jennifer) and Tom Montague, Katie, Michael, Patrick and Mary Montague, Kristin and Kelly Montague, Carrie Murphy Rewakowski (Daniel), Chris, Kevin, Sean and Conor Murphy, and Bryce, Evan and Moira Flynn; three great-grandchildren, Brendan, Noah and Mary Kate Rewakowski; sisters Anne Clark and Jeanne Quigley; and brother Edward M. O'Donnell Jr. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday at Tindall Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling Hours: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Ann's Parish, 4461 Onondaga Blvd, Syracuse, NY 13219. TINDALL FUNERAL HOME INC
