Avis de décès de Marie-Jeanne Bastarache


Marie Jeanne (Jeannie) Bastarache died October 21, 2005 after a short illness at the Temiskaming Hospital. She was in her ninety-first year. She was born in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, on August 16, 1915 to Mathias and Sarah Bastarache. Educated in Earlton and in Nicolet, Quebec, she married Joseph Hamilton in Englehart in 1942. Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker and mother, a quiet helper to those in need. She came to New Liskeard from Virginiatown in 1971 after her husband retired. In 1994 Mrs. Hamilton moved to Sarnia to be with her sister Laurianna who had suffered a stroke. She stayed there to care for her until Mrs. Hamilton herself had a heart attack in 2001. She then moved to her sister Joan’s in Milton and then to the Temiskaming Lodge in Haileybury. Mrs. Hamilton’s ninetieth birthday was celebrated at a family reunion and party in August 2005. She was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish and longtime proud member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. Mrs. Hamilton was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1973 in New Liskeard, parents Mathias and Sarah Bastarache, in-laws Bill, Evelyn, Sid and Peter. She is survived by her daughter Catherine (Bert) Wilhelm of Arizona; sons Gerald (Mitch) Whitby and Michael of Nepean; granddaughters Kristal Wilhelm and Debbie Hamilton; grandsons Walter (Linda), Albert and Heman Wilhelm and Mathew Hamilton; great-grandchildren Anton, Albert, Daniel, Jennifer and Helman; sisters Laurianna Bastarache of Sarnia, Joan Roncato of Milton and Gerry Fournier of New Liskeard; and by many nieces and nephews. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with the service conducted at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church on October 24 by Father John Lemire. Pallbearers were Gus Dekkers, Dallas Rostad, Dennis Fournier, Ernest Ouimet, Daniel Estrada and Anton Estrada. Burial is at the Catholic Cemetery in New Liskeard. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Whitby, Milton, Toronto, North Bay, Englehart, Palgrave and the Tri-Town area. The family thanked the Temiskaming Lodge and Dr. Hurtubise.
