Avis de décès de Margaret-Eleanor-Winnifred Jamieson


HURD, Margaret Eleanor Winnifred With sadness in our loss but with gratitude for the gift of life, the family announce the death of Mrs. Margaret Eleanor Winnifred Hurd (nee Jamieson) of Ottawa, on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Born at Sylvan Lake, Alberta in 1921, she trained as a nurse during the war in the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and graduated with her bachelor's degree with the class of 1945. She worked as a public health nurse in Athabasca, Alberta, and in Simcoe County, Ontario, and for the Victorian Order of Nurses in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, where she met her husband. She took her Master's degree in Public Health Administration from the University of Michigan in 1951, and from 1954-1958 taught at the School for Graduate Nurses, McGill University, Montreal. After raising a family, she returned to train nurses as Chair of the Health Sciences Department at Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology, Kirkland Lake, from 1977 until her retirement in 1988. Mrs. Hurd moved to Ottawa in 1999, and resided since 2002 at Starwood Extendicare Nursing Home. A lifelong presbyterian and a professing Christian, Mrs. Hurd was ordained an elder in St. Andrew's Church, Kirkland Lake, and served actively until her move to Ottawa. She is survived by two sons: James (Karen) and Scott (Beth), and four grandchildren: Anne, Andrew, Jennifer and Janet, all of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her parents, one brother and three sisters, and her husband, George Thomas Hurd (in 2002). The family will receive visitors at The West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair, and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral is due to be held at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 971 Woodroffe Avenue, on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in early October in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery, Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Thanks is expressed by the family to the staff of Starwood Extendicare Nursing Home for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Ottawa (971 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa ON K2A 3G9) or Parkwood Presbyterian Church, Ottawa (10 Chesterton Drive, Ottawa ON K2E 5S9) will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
