BANGOR - Louise John, 101, died Feb. 8, 2012, at a local health care facility. She was born April 16, 1910, in Bangor, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Ola) John. She attended Bangor public schools from which she graduated in 1927. She then attended Gillman Commercial School for one year. She started work at Dow Air Force Base Exchange in the early 1950s and left in 1962. In 1962 she went to the University of Maine Orono campus to work as manager of the Wells Commons Dining Facilities, retiring in 1975. Louise was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. Her travels took her on a world tour. She spent time in Portugal and Spain, and spent some winters in Marco Island, Fla. Louise was an excellent needle pointer and painter of nature, and also crocheted and knitted afghans. She loved to cook and made excellent Lebanese dishes. She is survived by two nieces, Janet Ghattas of Cambridge, Mass., and Claire Pitzer of Arlington, Va.; several cousins, two great-nephews and two great-great-nephews. Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 225 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. Marguerite A.H. Steadman, rector, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be sent to St. John's Episcopal Church, 234 French St., Bangor, ME 04401.
