BARRETT, Kevin Maxwell May 11, 1931 - November 26, 2008 Poet, Sailor, Historian, Mentor and Friend to all, Kevin died peacefully at home in the embrace of the family he loved so well. Cherished husband of Cathy (Clarke). Beloved father of Tristan Barrett (Sarah Beaudet), Michelle Barrett (Paul Stevens), Jane White (Steve), Elizabeth Holland (Chris) and Susan Hughes (Robin). Proud grandfather of Richard and Steven Holland, Elliot Hughes, and Adam White, whose presence brought such joy to his final weeks, as did the impending birth of another grandchild. Sadly predeceased by grandson Lawrence Hughes. Remembered by extended family and friends across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. Kevin endured a long illness with grace and humour, and he would want to join us in saluting the Palliative Care teams at The Ottawa General, Elisabeth Bruyere, and the Hospice at Maycourt. We are forever grateful to the wonderful people who make these programs work. To the Gifted Nurses of C.C.A.C. and to Lina for her special support. We acknowledge and thank Dr. Marie Benoit for many years of exceptional and compassionate care, and Dr. Louise Coulombe of the Community Palliative Care Network, our guiding light at journey's end. Thanks to so many friends and neighbors who sustained us all along the way. Respecting Kevin's wishes, his body has been donated to the U of O Faculty of Medicine and there is no Funeral. We will gather to celebrate his Life on Saturday, December 8th, 2008 from 2 to 7 p.m. at 935 Goren Avenue, Ottawa. All are welcome.
