JOANNE H. (HEYNS) DE JONG LANSING, IL Joanne H. (Heyns) De Jong, age 91, passed into the full glory of life everlasting on Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Already reflecting a remarkable abundance of heavenly glory here on earth, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Peter Y. De Jong; her father, Rev. Herman Heyns; her mother, Dena (Joldersma) Heyns-Berkhof; her stepfather, Professor Louis Berkhof; her sister, Wilma (Heyns) Brouwer; and by her step-siblings: William and John Berkhof, Grace Meyer and Jean Stuk. A woman of exemplary grace and strength, Joanne will always be cherished by her six children and their spouses: James A. and Lois De Jong, Deanne and E. Robert Tigchelaar, Peter and Charlotte De Jong, Stephen and Deanne De Jong, Corinne and James Hentges and Christine and Dale Zylstra; by her grandchildren: Kurtis and Julie De Jong, Kristin Joann and Michael Batts, Kyle and Jolene De Jong, Alisa Joanne Tigchelaar, Ian and fiancee Brooke Crocker, Andrea and Matthew Welton, Sarah and Caleb Slade, Christopher and Anne De Jong, Paul and Georgette De Jong, Jeremy and Amber De Jong, Mary Joanne De Jong, James and Kristin De Jong, Andrew and Sharla Van Roekel, Matthew and Kelli Van Roekel, Brandon Van Roekel, Christopher Van Roekel, Jessica Joanne and Joseph Galles, Joshua and Wendy Zylstra, Margaret and Jason Raymond, Katherine Zylstra and Lauren Zylstra; by her 23 great- grandchildren; and by her sister-in-law, Joanne (widow of Alexander) De Jong. Joanne was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School and Butterworth School of Nursing (R.N.) and an alumna of Calvin College. She pursued her nursing career prior to her marriage and intermittently thereafter. She enhanced her husband's Christian ministry with her invaluable wisdom and support. Her Christ-likeness blessed all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the Lynwood United Reformed Church, Lynwood, IL at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007 with the Rev. Keith Davis officiating. Visitation will be at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN on Thursday December 13, 2007 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Serving as pall bearers are the following grandchildren: Joshua Zylstra, James, Jeremy and Kirk De Jong, Lauren and Kate Zylstra, Alisa Tigchelaar and Andrea Welton. Memorials may be given to Rehoboth Christian School, New Mexico and the Running Strong for American Indian Youth Rehoboth Christian School.
