Athens - James Elmer Drake, 85, of Ferncliff Drive, died on Thursday, March 17, 2005.A native of Oconee County, Mr. Drake was the son of the late Quilla and Sara Clifford Drake. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Marbut. Mr. Drake served in the United States Army during WWII in North Africa, Sicily and Omaha Beach, Normandy. He retired as a technician with Johnson & Johnson, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member and deacon of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, Bernice Drake; daughter Joann Drake of Athens; sisters, Mae Vickers of Griffin, Jane Clifton of Athens and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Saturday March 19 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Rogers and Rev. Kent Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Friday, March 18 at Bernstein Funeral Home.
